Muscle and joint diseases are some of the most common diseases that affect people.  They can affect people of any age although some are more likely to develop in older people. While prevention measures can be taken to ensure the disorders don’t become more serious, the remedies depend on the severity of the problem. Treatments can vary from individual to individual depending on age and body makeup.

Causes of musculoskeletal disorders, rheumatic diseases, sinusitis, and convulsions.

Some of the Vata disorders and their causes are as below.

Musculoskeletal disorders are caused due to performing certain activities. For example, people who sit in front of the computer most of the day are more likely to have musculoskeletal disorders. Lifting heavy weights regularly as part of the occupation can lead to musculoskeletal disorders. Not sitting properly when sitting and doing repetitive motions can lead to musculoskeletal disorders too.

There are many types of rheumatic diseases. They are usually autoimmune and are inflammatory. Rheumatic diseases affect the tendons, joints, bones, muscles, and ligaments. The main causes of rheumatic diseases haven’t been determined yet. Environmental factors and genes can be the causes. Sometimes an infection can lead to rheumatic disease.

Chronic sinusitis is caused due to respiratory tract infections such as colds as these block mucus from draining and inflame the sinus membranes. Allergies can lead to sinusitis and so can nasal polyps. Certain medical disorders can lead to sinusitis. When the bony partition between the nasal passages is deformed, then sinusitis can develop as a result.

Convulsions occur because of the improper firing of brain neurons. Convulsions come under seizures. The causes of convulsions are certain types of illnesses. Convulsions can occur as a reaction to a particular medication. They can occur due to the abnormality of the genes. Convulsions can occur due to acquired reasons too.

Ayurveda’s approach to rheumatic diseases

Ayurveda states that when Vata is out of balance then it can lead to rheumatic diseases and disorders. Vata is associated with movement, elimination, and nervous system activities. Its characteristics include moving, cold, rough, dry, light, change, and irregular. When the Vata is balanced then you have energy and you are able to do things easily. However, when Vata is out of balance then it can lead to a host of issues related to bones, joints, muscles, and digestive issues. It can lead to serious issues such as arthritis, hypertension, and restlessness among other issues when Vata is not balanced on time.

The first course of action to balance Vata according to Ayurveda is to alter your diet to a Vata-pacifying diet. You should focus on eating foods that are sour, sweet, and salty in nature. You can add warming spices such as cinnamon, ginger, cumin, and black pepper. You should eat meals that have been freshly prepared with fresh ingredients. You want to prepare your meals with ghee. Another alternative is to use oils of only the best quality to prepare your food. When you drink water or any liquid, it’s recommended that you drink it at room temperature. Else, they can be warm. You want to avoid cold drinks altogether.

People suffering due to Vata imbalance should ensure they are eating at routine times. Having a set routine will help you in the long run too and you should try to create one as you deem fit. You should listen to only soothing music that uplifts you. Spending time with people you admire is recommended too. When you are exercising, it’s recommended that you focus on gentle and moderate exercises. These can be walking for half an hour. Else, you can try swimming as long as the water is not too cold. Tai chi and yoga are other exercises you might want to try. Massaging yourself with warm sesame oil can help you to balance Vata too.
