Bone health and vata dosha are closely related. The asthi dhatu or bone tissue is formed as posaka (unstable) medas dhatu that flows into the purisha dhara kala – the membrane of the large intestine that holds the asthi agni. The large intestine is the important home site of vata dosha, and this explains the susceptibility of bones to the disorders of vata. With Gandha Thailam, vata and pitta disorders can be pacified and the natural mass and density of bones can be restored. As it pacifies vata and pitta, it is also beneficial in managing all conditions of bones, joints and muscles arising from the wear and tear of the dhatus or tissues.

Joint Pain:
The joints are the body parts that connect the bones and allow for smooth mobility. If the joints are damaged, which may happen due to injuries, sprains, or any disease it would affect mobility. This not only causes difficulty to move but also leads to severe pain, stiffness, and other symptoms. Joint pain is a common problem experienced by those who are over 60 and by those who are obese. The most common joint pain occurs in the knee. It can occur anywhere in the body. If not treated on time, the only option may be joint replacement surgery. Proper joint care can ensure smooth movement.
Causes of joint pain
Joint pain can occur due to many reasons. It may affect any of the joints in the body. Pain in the joints of the knee, shoulder, elbows, and hips are most common. Joint pain leads to soreness and aches in the joint.
The following are some of these reasons:
Ayurveda’s view of joint pain and joint care
In Ayurveda, the three doshas Vata, Pitta, and Kapha causes diseases and disorders, in case of imbalance in any of the doshas. Joint pain is related to imbalance in the Vata or air dosha. The joints are considered a site for vata. In fact, anatomically the joints have empty space or air, which is nothing but vata.
The tissues in the bones are related to the working of the joints. The asthi dhatu is the bone tissue connecting the joints to the bone. The majja dhatu connects nerves to the joints. One of the most important elements is the shleshaka kapha, which is a substance that provides cushioning to the joints. Imbalance in any of these can lead to pain in the joint.
Agni, the fire that affects metabolism is a key concept in Ayurveda. Agni is related to diet and digestion. A healthy diet keeps the agni healthy and the body healthy. Poor diet affects metabolism and causes an imbalance. All this affects the shleshaka kapha. This ensures poor lubrication of the joints, causing pain.
Vyana vata can be aggravated, which weakens metabolism. As a result, the tissues in the bone fail to get nourishment, leading to a breakdown. This one more cause of joint pain.
The third cause is because of accumulation of toxins. This is known as ama and can occur due to various reasons, including poor diet. Ama can accumulate in the joints and cause swelling, leading to pain.
In Ayurveda, joint care involves removing ama through cleansing. Ensuring a proper diet and taking medication to improve metabolism helps to kindle the agni. This ensures balance in doshas.
