Different Types of Immunity and Remedies To Boost Them

The world that we live in comprises myriads of elements and chemical compounds. These compounds may aid our life or make it challenging in one way or another.

For example, nutritious foods and fruits help maintain our overall well-being. In contrast, harmful chemicals may increase the risk of health concerns.

Our body’s immunity plays a vital role in keeping these health concerns at bay.

However, amidst the fast-paced life and carefree lifestyle, one may overlook immunity development and maintenance

Through this blog, we are trying to introduce our readers to immunity and its types, with tips on strengthening it

What is Immunity?

In biological terms, immunity is the ability to resist harmful organisms, both unicellular and multicellular. In humans, it refers to the strength that safeguards us against all types of diseases

Types of Immunity

There are primarily three types of immunity and the following list covers all of them.

1. Active Immunity

This type of immunity activates when your body comes in contact with a disease organism. This happens as the body creates antibodies when the disease organism attacks it.

Active Immunity

You can develop active immunity in the following two ways:

  • Naturally: Several diseases can affect humans only once in their life cycle—for example, chickenpox. When a person falls sick with such a health concern, their body produces antibodies to fight the disease. The next time a similar attack occurs, the antibodies eradicate the infection before effect.
  • Vaccination: In India, polio vaccination for kids is one example of this type of immunity. A weak or inactive variant of the virus is taken in. This enables the body to develop antibodies to battle the concern when it may attack.

Note that active immunity is also known as adaptive immunity.

2. Passive Immunity

Passive immunity develops when a person intakes antibodies for a disease, instead of waiting for their immune system to develop immunity.

Passive immunity

Examples include newborn babies developing passive immunity from their mother through the placenta. Additionally, blood products such as immune globulin may help while providing immediate protection from a disease.

However, speaking of active immunity and passive immunity together, passive immunity only lasts for a few months, or even weeks. Active immunity lasts longer.

3. Innate Immunity

This is the type of immunity that all of us take birth with. This refers to the natural disease fighting strength and capabilities of the human body.

Example - old sickness and fevers coming back and the immune system protecting us against them.

Maintaining innate immunity strength

To improve your innate immune strength, it’s advisable to maintain a healthy and balanced diet, regular physical and breathing exercises. Also, it’s advisable to add a dose of Chyavanprash to your healthcare routine. Kerala Ayurveda’s Chyavanprash is derived from the 5000 year old original recipe as suggested in ancient text- Ashtanga Hridayam. One of its benefits is better immune strength along with improved strength and longevity. It is powered with the goodness of 50 original ingredients. Wild variety of Amla high in Vitamin C from forests of Chattisgarh, Raisins from Afghanistan, Pippali from Bengal and Assam and other herbs are sweetened with ethically sourced, multifloral raw honey and jaggery.
