Thailam in Ayurveda: Types, Uses and More!

What is Thailam?

Ayurvedic massage oils used for ayurvedic treatments, skin and hair care, post and antenatal care etc., are called Ayurvedic Thailams. These are made with the goodness of all-natural ayurvedic products. Thailam is of several types, which all relieve different types of pain and health concerns. Thailam is best to provide care and relief to any pain or concerns; they work as the earliest and the most long-term treatment for all concerns.

Doshas in Ayurveda

Healing has always been at the core of Ayurveda; with centuries-old ways to treat illnesses, pains, and concerns with natural and long-term solutions, Ayurveda plays a huge role in all-over human well-being. The science behind every treatment and medicine is related to the philosophy of the Doshas. What are the Doshas?

All beings in the universe are a culmination of five major elements. As is believed in Ayurveda, individual bodies are made up of fire, water, air, earth, and space. The balance of these elements is what the well-being of a person depends upon. These elements agglomerate and combine to form three different life energies, which are called the Doshas. An imbalance in these and an imbalance in mind and soul will result in health concerns and illnesses. This is because they are central forces that keep the body and mind functioning properly.

What are the three types of Doshas? First is the Vata Dosha, the most powerful out of the three and is the combination of Air and Space. The nervous system and body movements depend on the Vata dosha. It manifests in the abdominal cavity and includes pelvic organs, colon, thighs, skin, ears, and brain. All central physical processes of the body depend on the Vata Dosha, so an imbalance or change in it can have severe implications.

The second Dosha is the Pitta Dosha. This is made up of fire and water in the body, and it is responsible for primary functional processes of the body like digestion and metabolism. Since it is in association with the element of fire, an increase of heat in the body is what the body goes through when Pitta Dosha is in excess. This causes discomfort and manifests into diseases like Diarrhoea, Stomach inflammation, anger issues and stress.

With earth as its main element and water accompanying it is the Kapha Dosha. Like earth and water, the Kapha Dosha is responsible for the body's harmony, as it holds the body together. It is responsible for keeping bones and joints together. This Dosha provides the body with stability, lubrication, and balance. It keeps the mind calm and going, preventing stress caused by an excess of Vata Dosha.

Practitioners of Ayurveda would prescribe and suggest medicines based upon the status of these Doshas in the body. Ayurvedic Thailam helps balance increased Doshas, specially Vata dosha. Their wide range of uses is matched with the wide array of Ayurvedic Thailam available at Kerala Ayurveda. Every thailam available is perfect for relieving a particular concern.
