Ayurvedic Research & Development (R&D) Center

KAL pays top priority to Ayurvedic research as it aids the metamorphosis of ancient Ayurvedic wisdom for the benefit of the present humanity. Research and Development (R & D) Center of KAL is well equipped and is engaged in various research activities spanning all the areas of Ayurvedic research. The Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, has approved this Center. The R & D division is presently engaged in drug research, clinical research, pharmaceutical research, research in agro-techniques and fundamental research. It also has formulated, tried and launched various new formulations which are being manufactured and marketed by KAL. The department also ensures the quality of the products of KAL by keeping a close watch on each and every phase of production and by monitoring with its scrupulous criteria.

R & D wing plays a vital role in all scientific aspects of the Company regarding Production, Formulation, Standardization, Monitoring quality of Products etc, apart from the active role in agricultural field.

New products are formulated by the R & D Wing after intensive research, animal trials and Clinical trials. The drugs developed by it for specific diseases have established a good reputation among doctors and patients.

Standardization of treatment and therapies are managed by clinical R & D, in which experts in various disciplines are engaged.

KAL has a vast herbal garden at Kottai, Aluva. This serves as a conservatory and nursery of herbs. The rare and endangered species forms major part of collections. The Company cultivates rare herbs under organic farming for the manufacture of medicines at its herbal farm spread over 42 acres at Thali, in Tamil Nadu.



KAL Gaveshak Ratna Award

Kerala Research Awards were instituted in 2007 as an annual award to the author and guide of the best ayurvedic dissertation submitted to Indian universities as part fulfillment of the post graduate course in Ayurveda. The Gaveshakratna Award is presented to the author of the best dissertation and Acharyaratna Award is presented to his/her guide. The Gaveshakratna Award constitutes a certificate of merit, memento and cash prize of Rs. 2 lacs. The Acharyaratna Award constitutes a certificate of merit, memento and cash prize of Rs. Fifty thousand. All the finalists and their guides are presented with appreciation awards consisting of a certificate of merit, memento and cash prize. Cash prize for the finalist scholar is Rs. Twenty five thousand and for the guide is Rs. Ten thousand. 

The awards of 2010, are for two academic years 2008-2009 and 2009-2010. Initially the 78 theses came from nine universities and maximum, i.e., 27 was from Gujarat Ayurveda University. A minimum number of entry i.e. one thesis was from Kannur University.  Discipline wise, the maximum number of entries were from Kaaya Cikitsaa and Rasasaastra and Bhaishajya kalpana (12 each).

Three dissertations were selected from this for final round. The titles, scholars and guides of these three are : -

  1. A clinical trial to study the efficacy of selected Ayurvedic treatment modality in cerebral palsy in children below 8 years – Dr. Roshni Anirudhan  under the guidance of Dr. S. K. Ramachandran MD (Ay)Professor and HOD Department of Kaumaarabhrtya, Govt. Ayu. College Thiruvananthapuram.
     

  2. Standardization of “Akshi – tarpana” and role of Jeevantyadi Ghrta in the management of Timira with special reference to Myopia. – Dr. Poonam under the guidance of Dr. Manjusha Rajagopala, MD (Ay.) Ph.D. , Department of Saalaakya, I.P.G.T. and R. A., Gujarat Ayurveda University, Jamnagar.
     

  3. A study on Autism and the role of Mahaapaisaacika ghrta in its management. – Dr. Shubha K. S. under the guidance of Dr. C. V. Jayadevan MD (Ay), Professor, Department of Kaaya cikitsaa, VPSV Ayurveda College, Kottakkal.

 

Among the three Gaveshakratna 2010 was bagged by Dr. Subha K S, for her paper titled - A study on Autism and the role of Mahaapaisaacika ghrta in its management, under the guidance of Dr. C. V. Jayadevan MD (Ay), Professor, Department of Kaaya cikitsaa, VPSV Ayurveda College, Kottakkal. The Gaveshak ratna award was presented on 29th January 2010, by Dr. C. K. Ramachandran MBBS, MRCP, FRCP, in the presence of an august gathering. Acharyaratna award was given to Dr. C.V. Jayadevan MD (Ay) on the same occasion by Mr. Ramesh Vangal, Chairman, Kerala Ayurveda Limited.

The other two finalists and their guides were presented with appreciation prizes.
